The NATURE OF WOMEN

A woman is a product of her environment, adapting to any situation thrown at her…

Women can become beastly or unpleasant if unwanted attention approaches, women can become wicked and satanic if they protect themselves against harm. Women can become deadly, brutally preying on those who try to attack, defy, or disobey their integrity. Women can become divine when they accept themselves wholeheartedly.

“The Nature of Women” is a four-part colourful pop art/collage photography series that showcases women through four separate attributes that have predominantly portrayed men throughout the world’s history. Namely, the beastly, the brutal, the satanic and the divine. Throughout my creative journey and as an artist I strive to make the world an equal playing field for all who inhabit it. I hope that my colourful, loud, and dramatic art sparks people’s imagination and evokes conversation to question society's choices to hopefully make the world a better place. By engaging and creating photography that evokes these questions I believe I can allow a conversation of change to start regarding certain issues surrounding us.

Filmeater

Throughout history, film posters have stood the test of time. A film can capture our hearts as stories unfold before our eyes, immersing us in a completely different universe. With creativity, the possibilities are endless. Although, the universe can only be moulded to the viewer's interests through the imagery used within film posters. An image that says a thousand words to convince and convert an audience. A poster makes the film rememberable and iconic and is the most recognisable image of the film – the climax, if you will.

This series aimed to capture the essence of eleven iconic films throughout history by looking at their colour palette, aesthetic, and essence to recreate images that could stand the test of time. The approach of my idea flourished as I researched the importance of photography within the cinematic experience and how vivid images from films are heavily embedded in our brains after viewing. Compiling the series of films was interesting as I wanted a succession of different aesthetics and genres as my series didn't need to match colour-wise but with the idea of a film intertwined. I used films I liked and ones with icon status for many different age demographics. For people now, it's tough to stand the test of time due to continuous changes within our fast-paced society and how disinterested people become with things that are just handed to them. But what if I was to follow the trends within the photographic practices and techniques of the 21st century and create a drive for people to guess what film they're looking at instead of handing it to them?
